Such a creative inventor, Sakichi Toyoda produced the Toyoda Automatic Loom Company licensed to a British
company. The monies that were made went to help found the Toyota Motor Company. It was supported partly by the
Japanese government because of the military applications. Through the years the car company was eventually handed
over to Sakichi Toyoda’s son, Kiichiro Toyoda. The spelling change of the name was due to the Toyoda’s wanted it
separate from their home life. As Toyota is easier to pronounce than Toyoda in Japanese, and to write Toyota takes
eight strokes to write in Japanese, is also known to be luckier than Toyoda.
The first Toyoda truck was the one ton to one half ton design. There was a forty horsepower, four cylinder
model, similar to the six cylinder design. In nineteen seventy nine model changes were made. The biggest change was
the Toyota 4x4 trucks, which were somewhat designed after the Land Cruiser, having a solid front axel and leaf
springs on all of the wheels, and a rough and tough tested frame. Toyota 4x4 trucks (four is used for the fourth
generation of Toyota’s) these came with two wheel bases, either short or long, creating a good feeling for the
consumer. The 4x2 and the 4x4 are separate product lines; they are made separately and in different plants.
In nineteen ninety five Toyota introduced the Toyota 4x4 truck called the Tacoma. It had the high performance
engines. The 4WD models had a 150ph. 27l four cylinder engine producing 177 pound-foot of torque. As the 2WD models
only had 142hp 2.4L four cylinder with 160 pound foot of torque.
In the Toyota 4x4 truck the Tacoma suspension was brand new. The redesigned suspension offered a coil spring,
double wishbone configuration. This replaced the Hi-Trac torsion bar. For safety there is a standard driver side
airbag, a high mount stoplight that is centered, and adjustable seatbelt anchors. The Toyoda 4x4 also has side view
mirrors, and side door impact beams.
The Toyota 4x4 truck Tacoma, the name Tacoma, coming from the Salish Indian, means mountain that provides water
to their tribe. This name conjures up images of power and strength. These Toyota 4x4 are made in Fremont California
and the Honsha Plant in Toyota, Japan.
Like every other truck on the road the Toyota 4x4 trucks have been upgraded in the last twenty years because of
better, new safety technology. A lot of people use the Toyota 4x4 trucks for off road thrills. One of the most
important features would be the surround air bags. In an event of a crash, the air bag will come out from the
steering wheel as well as all around the cab of the truck. Other safety features in the Toyota 4x4 trucks is the
rollover sensors, brake assist, electronic brake force, stability control and traction control.
Toyota 4x4 trucks come with many different options. Such as cold climate gear for on or off the road driving.
Some insist on having a trailer hitch. Most new owners of the Toyota 4x4 trucks will exchange the tires. Those huge
tires are more than just decoration; they add clearance their aggressive tire grip will help in snow, mud, sand and
whatever can run through.
